Kimberly Abbott
Artist
A Southern California native, Kimberly started her professional visual arts career at the young age of 13 performing for the Mouse at the Disneyland Hotel. A steady 20+year career of singing, dancing and musical theater led her to NYC in 2001. After years of hitting the pavement and as life would have it, Kimberly experienced a very dark and emotional period. She quickly turned to painting as a means to release all that she was experiencing.
Kimberly is an intuitive artist who has studied various styles of the masters, especially leaning towards O’Keeffe, Van Gogh and Turner. She draws her inspiration from the mystery that is life and is driven by music and affectivity. Her art is abstract with influences of nature, with the colors leading the emotions of the shapes. Her background in song and dance also lends itself to the lyrical quality of her work.
"Abstract is where I feel at home as it allows me to delve deeper into the themes, words, emotions I am aiming to express. When starting a painting, I may have colors and/or shapes in mind but ultimately the piece itself will tell me where to go while allowing my emotions, surroundings and music to help guide me through the process. And having been a professional singer for many years, you can certainly find me singing while painting!! It's an additional release for me and I find that it greatly contributes to my work."
Kimberly's debut solo showing in NYC in December 2009 had great success and her work can now be seen in private collections around the globe.
Miss Abbott currently resides in New York, NY and travels often for inspiration with her photographer husband.
